Seth H. Dixon

September 1, 1928 ~ January 29, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Seth H. Dixon, age 88, of Concordia, KS., died Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Cloud County Health Center. He was born September 1, 1928 to Paul and Rebeckah (VanKuren) Dixon at Osawatomie, KS.

The family moved to Salina, KS., when he was 6 years old. He graduated from Salina High School in 1946.

Seth entered the Army after graduation in 1946. Served as enlisted man in Signal Corp stationed in Panama. Discharged in 1948. Attended Northrop Aeronautical Institute in Washington until selected for Officers Candidate School in 1950. He married Ellen Ruth McWilson on March 14, 1951 at First United Methodist Church, Concordia, KS. They had three children: Charles Michael Dixon, Susan Kay Dixon and Sandra Jo Dixon.

Seth entered Officers Candidate School in March 1951 and graduated 2nd Lt. Signal Corp, US Army August 1951. He was stationed at: Ft. Mammoth, New Jersey, San Marcos, Texas, Permasens, Germany, Ft. Meade, Maryland, Korea  1957 – 58; Los Angeles, California; Tehran, Iran; Asmara, Ethiopia; Lynnwood, Washington; Heidelberg, Germany; Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, May 1970 as Lt. Col.

After retiring from the Army he worked at the Youth Center at Beloit, KS., as Youth Worker and Business Manager. Left Beloit and became Personnel Director at St. Joseph Hospital. Returned to Youth Center and was Cottage Director. Retired as Director of Evaluation Unit in July 1990. (16 years)

He had many interests: Fishing, camping, flowers, gardening and did remodeling and carpentry work.

Seth was a member of: First United Methodist Church; V.F.W. & American Legion and Retired Officers Association.

He is survived by: son – Charles Dixon & wife Kathy

                                   daughter – Sandra Dixon & husband Don Mikulik

4 grandchildren: Ian Dixon, Spencer Dixon, Corinne Mikulik, Ryan Forker

1 great grandchild – Alexander James Dixon

Preceded in death by: parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, wife and 1 daughter – Susan

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church – Concordia, KS with Rev. Melanie Adams officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Nutter Mortuary Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
