I remember a day in 1977 when I had heard through the family grapevine that Uncle Eddie and Aunt Shirley were planning a visit in July. My boyfriend and I had planned on getting married at some point - so I called Kansas. Uncle Eddie answered the phone, we chatted a while and then I asked him if he was planning on packing a suit for his impending visit to Massachusetts. He wondered why I was asking such a strange question. Who would pack such an item for a vacation in the hottest month in New England? Then I asked if would marry me and Bob while he was here. He readily agreed and the ceremony took place in my parents’ back yard on July 9, 1977 – the happiest day of my life. I will always be grateful.

There when I needed him most. Taught me so much. He showed love without an expectation of love in return. This was a solid Christian man, I loved him and he will be sorely missed. My condolences to Shirley and all of his family and friends.

Shirley & family -
My most sincere condolences for the passing of Ed. May God put His arms around you to help with this most difficult time. I didn't know that Ed was an Irishman - but I guess that explains the twinkle in his eyes that I saw many times! I'm also an Irishman (born in Ireland) & hope that I can bring as much laughter & joy to people that Ed did!

Sincerely -
Rose Hansen

Shirley and family, Sandy Gates sent us a note today about Ed's passing. Heather and I sure enjoyed getting to know Ed at the OCC Branson Conferences and it was always a pleasure to be around him. He was such a fun guy. We are thankful for his love of our Lord and example for all of us. May our good Lord provide you comfort and strength at this time. Love, Meredith and Heather Williams, Joplin, MO

We wish to express our deepest sympathies in the earthly loss of your husband & father. He was a wonderful man who loved his Lord first and that showed in the way he loved those closest to him as well as those around him. We know he has entered the Church Triumphant!

Shirley:
We both are sadden with the passing of Ed. We have fond memories of He and your family while both in Topeka and in Concordia. As a believer we know where he now rests and are delighted it is so, but we ask Goid to be your comforter and sustainer during the most difficult days that lie ahead. We pray that God will grant you an extra helping of His Love, Grace and Peace to you and your family now and into the future. May God Bless you!

Ed was such a joy to be around. His sense of humor and his happy, smiling face radiated his love of the Lord in his life. We looked forward to visiting with him at church every Sunday and sitting with him at the lenten suppers at the Catholic church. He loved those fish dinners on Fridays during lent. Heaven welcomed him into the arms of his loving God and he awaits the rest of us when our time on earth is over.
