Rodney Elliott Obituary

Rodney (Rod) Lee Elliott passed away on October 6, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Rod was born February 20, 1953 in Concordia, KS. He was the son of Carol G. and Marguerite I. Elliott (Buckles). As a child, he was in the Boy Scouts, and he was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. In 1971, he graduated from Concordia High School. He earned his Associate in Arts from Cloud County Community College, where he was part of Phi Theta Kappa, graduating with honors. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Arts from Kansas Wesleyan University.

In August of 1972, Rod married the love of his life, Patti Lee Doyle. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Born to this union were two daughters: Melinda and Natalie. Family was important to Rod, and he displayed his love as often as he could through practical jokes and funny stories.

For many years, Rod worked with his father in the family business of Elliott Excavating. In later years, his interest in counseling became a priority. After Carol passed away and the business was closed, Rod continued his counseling career. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree, he worked for Pawnee Mental Health for about 14 years. Rod loved helping people, and enjoyed working alongside the men in the work crew at Pawnee.

Rod loved life. He celebrated 37 years of sobriety on June 9, 2022. He was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous and had a deep passion for recovery and helping others. His other passion was music. He taught himself to play guitar as a teenager, played in a garage band as a young adult, and made sure every car he drove had the best sound system possible.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Marguerite Elliott, brother, Marlin Elliott, and brother in law, Richard Doyle. He is survived by his wife, Patti, sister, Carolyn (Duane) Piper, Santé Fe NM, two sisters in law, Nancy (Greg) Gruber, Phillipsburg KS, Vicki Doyle (John Bollig), Ellis KS, two daughters, Melinda Isaacson (Shane Hillman), Scandia KS, Natalie Elliott, Concordia KS, three grandsons, Nicholas (Taylor) Thompson, Fountain CO; Phillip Thompson, Spring Lake NC, Kevin Thompson, Fountain CO, one great grandson, Cooper Thompson (Nicholas and Taylor), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
