Doris Arline (Douglas) Bergstrom

Doris A Bergstrom, 87, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. Doris was born on March 30, 1935 to Leland Elmer and Gladys (Hyland) Douglas. She was the fifth child in the family of six children: Kenneth L, (deceased 1982), Virginia L Racette of Clyde, Majorie Jean (deceased 1931), Robert Dale (deceased 2018) and Danny Dean (deceased 1941). Doris grew up in Clyde Kansas. She was 16 years old when she met her future husband, Richard (Swede) Bergstrom at the roller skating rink. They were married on August 4, 1951. Doris followed Swede through fourteen moves over the years until they circled back home to Concordia, Kansas in 1994 after retirement. Swede passed away in 2009 and Doris moved to Gardner, Kansas to live with her daughter. During their 58 years together, Swede and Doris raised six children: Peggy L Whiteaker Bergstrom (deceased 2005), Phyllis Bergstrom of Gardner, Kansas, Richard L, Jr (Dick) (deceased 2020), Ronald L/ Jodi of Concordia, Randy L/Cathy of Bonner Springs and Patty L of Gardner, Kansas. The Bergstrom family grew to 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Family was most important to Doris. She made everyone feel like family and fostered many special bonds. Her dream was to “only” be a mother and she was the BEST! Doris enjoyed racing with her family and was an avid NASCAR fan. She watched her final NASCAR race Sunday evening. Other interests were Bingo, Bunco, playing cards and Mahjong with her Senior Citizen friends. Doris lived a full life filled with love from her family and friends.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, April 27 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Nutter Mortuary, 116 E 6th St., Concordia, Kansas. Private burial at Mt. Hope cemetery in Clyde, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Olathe Health Hospice House, 15310 Marion St., Olathe, Kansas 66061.
