William P. Matthes, 76, of Concordia, KS passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS.
A local funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 at Jamestown Methodist Church, Jamestown KS. Pastor Randy Whitley will officiate. Military Honors by Concordia American Legion Post 76.
A second service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Breckenridge Methodist Church, Breckenridge MO. Pastor Sally DeMasters will officiate, with Burial following at Rosehill Cemetery in Breckenridge, MO.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 16, 2014 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Nutter Chapel at the Nutter Funeral Home in Concordia, KS.
Bill was born in Breckenridge, MO to Herman and Beulah Matthes on August 7, 1937.
He married Ruth Anne Proctor in Braymer, MO. December 31, 1961 in Braymer Mo.
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years Ruth Anne; son, Tal and wife Carrie of Excelsior Springs, MO; son, Matt of Tribune, KS; brother, Jerry and wife Peggy of San Diego, CA; brother, Derryl, sister, Judy and husband Buell Applebury, all of Chillicothe, MO; brother-in-law Steve Proctor and wife Beth, sister-in-law Sally Proctor all of Braymer, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved in-laws George and Ruby (Tooter) Proctor and 1 Brother-in-law Tommy Proctor.
He proudly served in the US Air Force 1956-1960
He was very dedicated to his career with the National Weather Service for 34 years; he served as an Electronics Technician. Starting in Dodge City, KS, Lincoln, NE, and retiring in Concordia, KS in 1995.
He was a member of the Breckenridge Methodist Church, Breckenridge Masonic Lodge #334 A.F. & A.M., Kansas-Nebraska Radio Club, a lifetime member of American Legion post 76 Concordia KS, and the Orrick Duck Club.
Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman and had a great love of nature. In later years he became a amateur radio operator and was issued the call sign K0WPM and was a founding member of the Western Kansas 160 meter net.
