Obituary, Ila Glee Johnson Larson

Ila Glee Larson (Glee), 98, passed away February 16, 2017.  She was born October 6, 1918 in Gering, NE to  Ila Mae McFarland Johnson and Bert Johnson. 

As a small child she traveled with her family in a covered wagon to her mother’s homestead north of Douglas, WY. 

Glee attended rural schools and graduated from Glendo High School in Glendo, WY.  After graduating from Barnes School of Commerce, Denver, CO she met Dean Larson, Sr.    They were married on June 29, 1939 in Denver and enjoyed 64 years together.

After returning to Concordia, Glee lived with Dean’s parents on their farm during WWII while Dean was away serving as a FlyingTiger pilot in China.  Later, Glee and Dean owned and operated Larson Mini Gas and Mix Shop in Concordia for many years. She resided in Concordia until 2009 when she moved to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty Missouri to be near her family.  At the time of her death she was residing at Liberty Health and Wellness Nursing Home.

She was  preceded in death by her husband, Dean Larson, Sr and son, Michael Paul Larson, and by her parents, and three brothers, Keith Anderson, Thane Johnson and Delbert Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Dean Larson, Jr and wife Pam (Longton) Larson, Liberty, MO, three grandchildren, Dean W. (Trace) Larson, III  (Kristen) Liberty, MO, Erin Lynn Larson Smithville, MO, and Eric J. Larson (Dr. Emily) Parkville, MO.  She had six great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly:

Glee was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Concordia and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty, MO. In her younger years, she loved playing golf and bridge.  Lately, she continued playing bridge and pitch. She was a member of:

Ladies Auxiliary VFW

American Legion Auxiliary

POW Camp Concordia Preservation Society

Women of the Moose

Lady Bracknell Red Hat Club of Concordia

Cloud County Concordia Historical Society

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Susan G. Komen, breast cancer research.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 25, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church – Concordia, KS at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Fraiser officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2017 at Nutter Mortuary Chapel from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
